👨🏽‍💻 Over my winter break in December 2023, I spent each day of my two-week holiday building a set of experiments using large language models (LLMs) and code to demonstrate (for myself) how close Generative AI can get to assisting with data & analytics use cases. By the end of my holiday, I felt strange.

In fact, on the last night when I completed the most complex use case I attempted and saw that it worked, I had to walk away from my desk and pace the house. It was midnight and my wife noticed my back and forth walks and she asked what was going on. I replied “I feel weird - I think I just replicated using AI what many people at work do daily at a basic level”

Now there’s more work to do and what a business data & analytics team does isn’t trivial, but I only expect the capabilities to get more powerful and accurate.

So my hypothesis is that if your job fits within the general scope of answering these questions…:

• Tell me how my product / customer / sales are performing today / time period
• Describe my data to me
• Relate my data for me
• Translate my data for me
• Visualize my data for me
• Etc.

….then your job is already on the target path to becoming automated by AI. Or rather, someone is building a product that will replace your job.

Now if you’re smart, you could be the person building the product that replaces your job. Because who else would know your job better than you?
